ABOUT CRiSPYLAVA

Digital illustration of a person wearing a cap and a navy blue shirt, with a blurred green background.

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember — cartoons and posters in high school, sketchbooks filled during college and beyond. Though I didn’t go to art school, I spent years attending open life sessions, learning to see and translate form. Later, I took to the outdoors, painting plein air landscapes to better understand light, color, and place. I’ve learned a ton from online videos and courses, both about making art and the digital software I use.

Today, my work focuses on iconic landscapes of California and the American West — coastlines, mountains, beaches, buildings, and trees — translated into bold, graphic forms. Each piece begins as a drawing in Procreate and is developed into a finished vector composition in Affinity Designer.

My influences trace back to the interwar years: the California landscape prints of Paul Landacre, the woodcuts of Gustave Baumann, the photography of Edward Weston, British Railway poster, and Japanese Shin Hanga printmakers.

Art is my daily practice. Each morning, before the rest of world stirs, I spend two quiet hours drawing. In those moments CRiSPYLAVA takes shape — the distilled color, light, and form of California as I see it.

Coming soon: limited edition prints in small, signed runs.
